| L'exploitation des stocks de petits pélagiques est traditionnellement réalisée en Tunisie par des navires pratiquant la pêche au feu. La campagne de l'"Ichthys", dont le programme initial avait été établi dans le cadre d'un accord passé avec l'Office National des Pêches de Tunisie, avait pour but de montrer les possibilités de pêche de jour au moyen d'un chalut pélagique à grandes mailles. Les travaux devaient être effectués d'une part dans les zones habituelles de pêche au feu, d'autre part dans les secteurs actuellement peu ou pas fréquentés par les senneurs tunisiens, notamment le golfe de Gabès. | Escapement through the body or under the footrope of the sampling trawl used for the Mediterranean international trawl survey programme (MEDITS) was assessed i) by means of visual observations performed with a towed operating vehicle equipped with a high-sensitivity video camera, and ii) by attaching small bags to the outside of the trawl body and under the footrope. Due to the small size of most of the individuals present in the study area and to the towing speed, fish behaviour in front of the trawl could not be frequently observed. | The trawling activities of Sète ships grew markedly between 1971 and 1983: the number and above all the power of these trawls increased; marketed amounts went from less than 3,000 tonnes for the period 1971-1973 to more than 8,000 tonnes in 1982 and 1983. This development masks a distinct deterioration of the economic results of each category of trawl since the end of the 1970s. | Many theoretical studies since after the war have been devoted to the biological and economic aspects of exploiting halieutic resources. They often lead to, indeed focus directly on, the interest of limiting the fishing effort. In the simplest case, the one in which production automatically finds an outlet, the idea of limiting the fishing effort comes from an argument that can be presented schematically in three points: a) halieutic resources and their renewal are limited; b) an increase in overall fishing effort cannot therefore be done while maintaining the same level of catches per unit of effort; the latter inevitably decrease. | The areas of the continental shelf neighbouring the valleys and deep sectors of the slope of the gulf of Lion, are hardly or not at all exploited by the French fleet, especially in its central and eastern part, for multiple reasons: distance from the coast, high fuel expenses, meeting the times set, complexity of the canyons' and their surroundings' morphology, mistral wind frequently blowing. This study aims to define the fisheries located on the flexure and the slope on the three following areas: east of Port-Vendres, south of Sète, south of the gulf of Fos, in order to compare their status, as far as performances and the composition, in size, of the most represented species are concerned. |

| Depuis 1970, année record de la production sardinière en Méditerranée (plus de 22 000 t dont 21 000 t en provenance des quartiers de Port-Vendres, Sète, Martigues et Marseille), la pêche de la sardine s'est trouvée confrontée à de nombreuses difficultés. Avec une production proche de 11 000 t seulement, la campagne sardinière 1976 s'est inscrite dans la ligne d'un certain déclin de la pêche de ce petit pélagique qui, se manifestant depuis six ans, a ramené le niveau de production à celui des années 1960-1965, période de début du développement et d'organisation de cette activité. |

| On the French Mediterranean coasts, trawl fishing used to be practiced exclusively with two-sided nets until the middle of the 1970s. The adoption of four-sided trawls has changed the composition of species and sizes of the trawlers'catches in this area. Experimental fisheries conducted in the Gulf of Lion on board a research vessel belonging to the IFREMER enabled the study of the selectivity parameters of a four-sided bottom trawl with a wrapping double-pocket. Three pockets of different meshes were tried out on various demersal and pelagic species. The collected data was processed through different selectivity analysis methods. Presented here is an assessment of the relative efficiency of each of these seven methods. |
